The trend of learning Math and Science in English

Math and Science in English were previously the subjects of only international or bilingual school. Since 2014, when Vietnam piloted an integrated education program, students across the country began to have the concept of learning subjects in English in accordance to the standards of developed nations.

Math in English has many differences compared to Vietnamese program due to the emphasis on logical thinking and applicability. Students not only learn Number, Algebra Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus… but also study intensively about Statistics, Matrix, Mechanics, as well as interdisciplinary research with Physics, Computer Science, Information Technology…

Science in English is even more interesting as students learn about Physical Science, Life Science, Earth science… at a basic level before progressing onto Physics, Chemistry, Biology… at later stages.

Why is teaching Math and Science in English necessary?

From the initial trend, it’s the interesting curriculum content that makes students increasingly love Math and Science in English, and realize the importance of learning subjects in English.

When learning subjects in English, students have to learn and understand all concepts entirely in English. Instead of learning through the traditional way of translating and comparing terms, the advanced teaching method emphasizes on explaining ideas based on correlated concepts entirely in English. Thereby, students can easily grasp the fundamentals of the problem instead of spending time searching for equivalent terms in Vietnamese. Since then, access to knowledge sources of worldwide knowledge is no longer a barrier. Students can both serve their present learning progress and even plan ahead should they wish to study abroad.
