In Vietnam, because the IGCSE program is only popular in international schools, most students who want to get IGCSE certificates are required to register in international schools to study and take the exams there. However, that is not the only way a student can choose. For homeschool students or those who want to improve their knowledge with an IGCSE certificate, the British Council has allowed candidates to freely register for the IGCSE exam. Does IGCSE accept private candidates?
The answer is yes. You can apply for a free IGCSE exam by finding an international school in your area that teaches the Cambridge curriculum that accepts private candidates to take the IGCSE exam or register with the British Council Vietnam.

More information about private candidates in IGCSE
Since the registration process for the free IGCSE exam is still quite new for many students, it is normal for you to have questions. The following are important information that you should read carefully when registering for the IGCSE free exam with an international school:
- Private candidates must be able to meet the full requirements of any assessment for which they are entered. In particular, where an assessment involves the submission of coursework, students must submit that coursework, which must be authenticated and marked by the school through which entry has been made.
- Entry for assessment can only be made through a school. It is the responsibility of private candidates to make their own arrangements with a school.
- Individuals who have been entered as private candidates are identified separately in summaries of the school’s results. The school name will not appear on the certificate issued to private candidates.
- Registering for the private candidates IGCSE exam fees will range from $37 to $200. This fee will vary depending on the exam subject of your choice.
